An investor seeking to confirm that the future looked bright for business

What does my market and consumer base look like post Covid-19?

Case study

We conducted multi-market consumer surveys to identify which groups had driven the market growth during Covid-19, what the drivers of their behaviour change were, and how likely these were to endure post pandemic.

Our client was an investor in a multinational craft business. The business has boomed during Covid-19, as lockdowns had driven more people to crafting.

We had built a strong relationship with the client having supported on the acquisition of the business two years prior. So when they needed to understand how consumer behaviour was likely to evolve post Covid-19 and impact their business outlook, they turned to us to validate the future outlook.

In-depth consumer understanding to inform the future outlook

We conducted multi-market consumer surveys to identify which groups had driven the market growth during Covid-19, what the drivers of their behaviour change were, and how likely these were to endure post pandemic. We cross-referenced previous consumer studies in the space and our knowledge of behaviour change principles to gauge likely future behaviours.

The above informed a model which calculated three potential future scenarios based on consumer participation in the market and implications for the total size and share addressable to the company.

In addition, we highlighted the key strategies pertaining to channel, product and marcomm preferences which would best position the company to achieve the highest growth rate scenario.

Supporting financial and strategic decision-making

We spent time sharing our findings with a range of lenders in the investment community, following which the company successfully received re-financing.

The management team are now integrating our recommendations into the strategic plans and using the customer groups we identified as core targets underpinning these plans.
